Brown FACADES 1.3.0

Brown FACADES (Facts about Campus Architecture, Design, Environments, and Spaces) is an interactive resource providing a comprehensive overview of the architectural history of the Brown University campus in Providence, Rhode Island. The platform serves as a curated guide to the diverse architectural styles found across the university's 250-year history.

The campus exemplifies a range of American architectural movements, reflecting its evolution over the centuries. Beyond its physical structures, the architecture and art on campus, as well as the balance between public and private spaces, collectively narrate the story of Brown University—its students, faculty, staff, and administration.

This project originated from an undergraduate research seminar in architectural history conducted during fall 2011. Throughout the semester, students engaged in weekly site visits and discussions at various campus locations to explore research methods and review their contributions. All entries were authored by students and subsequently refined by Siri Olson and Dietrich Neumann. The developers intend to further expand the application and welcome feedback from students and alumni to enrich the repository of facts related to campus architecture, design, environments, and spaces.
